By 3:00pm, we still hadn’t received any food, not even the kids’ pasta. When I inquired, I was told that only two of our meals had been plated and that it’s “standard” to wait an hour for food. We were also told our order hadn’t been placed until 2:00pm. That may have been when it reached the kitchen, but we had been sitting there for over an hour and no one had communicated any kind of delay or expectation.
I work in the hospitality industry and live in a busy tourist town—I understand how restaurants operate, and I’m empathetic to the challenges. But an hour+ ticket time with no communication, especially for a party with young kids and a special occasion, just isn’t acceptable by any standard. It felt like our presence and experience didn’t matter.
The owner (or manager) seemed more interested in defending the situation than acknowledging it. I was told “everyone is told it’s an hour wait,” which simply wasn’t true in our case. The interaction left us feeling frustrated and dismissed, and it cast a shadow over what was supposed to be a celebratory day for our family.
What really stuck with me is that, as we were leaving, a staff member discreetly asked us to leave an honest review—saying nothing will change unless people speak up. That says a lot.
Anguilla is a beautiful island with many amazing places to eat. I would encourage others to support establishments that prioritize hospitality and care about the guest experience. Unfortunately, that just wasn’t the case here.
