Pretty beach with nice shade, though rocky and lots of Sargassum the day we visited
Sapphire Beach was beautiful and easy to access, with a convenient parking lot nearby. We were told there’s a restaurant and hotel on-site, though we didn’t use either. The entrance to the beach takes you right past the bar and restaurant, which was a little confusing at first and felt like we were walking somewhere we shouldn’t, but staff were polite and we found our way easily.
The beach was fairly busy when we visited, and it seems to serve nearby hotels and vacation accommodations. The sand on the beach itself was soft and perfect for the kids to play in, and there were plenty of trees providing shade, which was ideal for the senior citizens in our group to rest comfortably in chairs while we swam.
The water at the shoreline was noticeably rockier than at other beaches we visited, so water shoes would have been helpful. The biggest drawback for us the day we visited was the amount of Sargassum, a type of seaweed that floats in from elsewhere in the ocean. There were big mounds of it washed up on the beach, and it was thick in the water, drifting around in patches. We know it’s seasonal and depends on the winds, but it definitely made the experience feel a little less pristine. One person in our group was a bit skittish about fish or anything touching her, and every time the Sargassum brushed by she got startled and nervous.
Overall, Sapphire Beach is a pretty, convenient spot with good amenities and plenty of shade, but keep in mind the rocks and possible Sargassum when planning your visit. It’s still worth seeing, especially if conditions are clear.
