点评:We were greeted by a strikingly large blue iguana as we entered the park — and I don’t just mean the one on the sign in front of the park!
In hindsight, I should have come better prepared. The resident mosquitoes seemed to take quite an interest in us as we made our way to the Blue Iguana habitat. Long sleeves, insect repellent, and closed-toed shoes are highly recommended, as the paths around the gardens are gravel and the mosquitoes rather persistent.
Each iguana has its own space separated with concrete walls and there’s also a sheltered space that appears to be used for educational programs. I would have appreciated having someone on-site to share more about the conservation efforts and the individual stories of these fascinating creatures.
It’s possible we visited at a less-than-ideal time of year — October — when the orchids weren’t yet in bloom but the mosquitoes were certainly thriving.
Admission was $25 USD per person. We’ll definitely return another time, perhaps in the spring, and next time we’ll be sure to come better prepared.
