点评:We visited Bermuda last week on our cruise. We decided to once again skip the organized excursions and explore on or own. We were not disappointed as Spittal Pond exceeded our expectations. The #1 bus dropped us off right at the northern entrance. The trail goes through both open and wooded areas and offers really incredible scenic views along the ocean with cliffs, caves and rock formations. The trail is probably 1.5 to 2 miles and is of medium difficulty with some steepish inclines and rocky sections where you have to watch your footing. Towards the end of the trail we met a farmer who maintains the area and we had a nice chat. Very friendly and personable. When we visited, we were the only tourists in the reserve (that we were aware of). We saw a few species of birds, lots of plant varieties, many chicken, and had wonderful views of the water. There are some side trails off the main one that are steeper and can be explored.
There's no need to spend $100/person to go on a guided excursion when you can explore on your own for nothing more than the bus fare. Last visit we explored Blue Hole/Tom Moore's jungle and were just as happy. Spittal Pond is a diamond in the rough. Take advantage of it and avoid the crowds. If you're an outdoors person and like hiking, it will be a treat.
