A pleasant way to spend an afternoon

点评：We had booked a Sunday afternoon tea on board the train. Obtaining confirmation of our group booking proved difficult; emails were not answered and no helpful phone number is displayed on the website. We began to think perhaps we had made a mistake.
On the day all was well however. We received a warm and friendly greeting from the railway's staff and were soon directed to our tables in a comfortable, restored, former North Eastern Railway director's saloon.
The food was excellent, plenty for an afternoon tea, and clearly much care and pride had been taken in both menu selection and presentation. Refills of tea and coffee were provided free of charge.
The industrial standard of the track on the Tanfield Railway made for some lively riding. The skill of the waitresses in pouring cups of tea and coffee without spilling a single drop was impressive! They were careful not to overfill the cups too. The service was excellent.
Recommended as a very pleasant way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
