点评：Emancipation Park is located a short stroll west of Fort Christian. The centerpiece of the park is the Freedom Statue. On the marble base of the statue, the words Freedom are etched. The park was created to celebrate the emancipation of slaves in the Dutch West Indies, on 3 July 1848. This sculpture shows the bust of a slave blowing a conch shell and holding a machete in his other hand. This is a recognized symbol of slavery and freedom.
The conch shell was used to call escaped slaves to gather while hiding. The machete, known as a tool for cutting sugar cane, was used by slaves to fight for their freedom. The sculpture was originally placed in the park in 1998, and in March 2021 it became the centerpiece of the park, when the bust of a Danish King was removed from the garden and placed inside the nearby fort. A similar Freedom statue is located in Franklin Power Sr Park, next to the Ferry dock in Cruz bay, St. John.
Other nearby attractions include Hotel 1829, the 99 steps and Fort Christian.
