点评：Unlike the National Parks with their daily fees for international visitors entering Khwai is free. If coming from Savuti or Moremi you will have paid to access those before arriving, if travelling Maun through Mababe village you will enter Khwai no charge. I don't think this area is for first time self drivers or first time safari travellers. The game driving is not easy. It's not signposted like South Africa's Kruger, Addo etc or Namib-ia's Etosha. So to orientate your way around the various tracks, river crossings, or to avoid them, get Tracks4Africa. Just the paid Africa detail map will give you all you need. No 'directions to' option, but you will know where you are. It works on mobile or ipad android offline through satellite.
A 4x4 is essential, some off road experience definitely preferable, deep sand, deep holes are regular, river crossings best left to those who know how. So compared to other easier national parks you will spend time watching the road and a map as well as animal spotting. And if you definitely expect cats with ease you're in the wrong place. So for beginners you may be disappointed and you shouldn't be, self drive safaris are wonderful. And while lion and leopard are hard to come by, a day here can actually seem like driving in Eden. A stunning waterway, sometimes just 10 metres wide, other times a few hundred metres of green covered wa-ter, wonderful river bank trees filled with herds of elephant, maybe 6, maybe 26, every few hundred metres, impala, waterbuck, red lechwe, zebra, warthogs in numbers in between, then hippo pools,crocodiles various birdlife and hyena. Wonderful. If you’re staying in a catered lodge then all this will be available to you without the hassle of driving or spotting, and local guides are most likely to know the regular spots for the lions and elusive leopard.
