Best Vacation Golf in Bermuda
The Turtle Hill Golf Club的点评
点评：With dramatic changes in elevation, scenic views of the ocean and the accompanying sea breeze Turtle Hill was so enjoyable to play, I played it twice in the 3 days the cruise ship was in port.
At 2,684/2,593/2,230 (slope 92/91/90) the 18 hole, Par 54 Turtle Hill Golf Club course might be considered a par 3 course. With 5 holes over 180 from the blues, water hazards, elevation changes, strong coastal winds, and tight fairways one's hopes of making par are quickly challenged.
Ted Robinson design makes this challenge apparent in the opening hole with a 200 ft drop and a sea breeze. No one in either group I played with made par. The more wide open and flatter holes provide more hope of a birdie but I agree with the observation that Ted Robinson seems to have designed every hole as to make you choose the wrong club. Fortunately, while the rental clubs are good, they still make a great vacation excuse.
For beginner-intermediate level players enjoying the lush Bermuda surroundings and cart's GPS yardage system, the course seems much easier and hazards easier to avoid.
Being a hot dry July, beverages are highly recommended, but have to be purchased at the pro-shop as there was no beverage cart on the days I played. Fortunately you pass the pro-shop going from 9 to 10th hole to pick-up refills.
The friendly & helpful staff make you feel welcome and that Turtle Hill is more fun to play than anywhere else. Bonus, there is a cruise ship special available.
The Head Golf Pro Nick Noviello has a staff of that provide lessons to the residents and visitors, from beginners to pro. While I was there they introducing a new generation to golf with children's summer golf camp.
Turtle Hill is regarded as one the best par-3 golf courses in the world and I recommend it be your 1st stop when in Bermuda.
