点评：Our original trip was cancelled due to bad weather, and so we went on the next trip later in the day but by rights that should have been cancelled too. Although it was dry and not particulary cold, it was quite windy. Once out of port the sea swell increased rapidly. Probably a third of the passengers were seasick due to the rough seas, with the boat rolling massively from side to side. You have to sail a long way out before there's any chance of seeing whales.
The prospect of four hours at sea in those conditions made my heart sink, but eventually we came across a lone sperm whale. We watched it swimming on the surface until it dived (max sighting time 15 minutes) and then we immediately turned back to port. So the company ticked the box for a sighting and didn't have to refund anyone for an unsuccessful trip. Ok I know it is the luck of the draw but I think they went out because they were desperate not to have to cancel a second trip that day. When we did see the whale there was a lot of over-excited commentary about how wonderful it was and what an amazing sight, but other than that very little information was given about the natural history of the area, the life of whales or anything else. One of the crew couldn't even identify common sea birds.
So a very expensive way to feel extremely ill and only get a brief glimpse of one whale.
