点评:Pentala Archipelago Museum is a perfect excursion destination for all tourist in Espoo and Helsinki. You find old houses, a summer restaurant, a sheep pasture, a nature trail and a sandy swimming beach on the island. So there is something for everybody there.
The surface of Pentala Island is 130 hectares. So it is one of the largest islands in Espoo. The size of the nature conservation area is 51 hectares. You see rocks, forests, swamps and a lake there and you hear many singing birds. The circle nature trail is 2.3 kilometers long and it leads next to the sandy Diksand Beach which is 100 meters long. It may be the finest sandy beach in Espoo and there are also some rare plant species there. You may swim there but there aren't any services at the beach.
The Espoonkartano Croft was established on Pentala Island in 1758. The oldest parts of the still remaining fisherman's cottage date from the 1790's. The Villa Rosengård was built in 1916. Gurli Sity Nyholm (1905-1987) was the last permanent resident on the island. She moved there at the age of 24 after marrying fisherman Arvid Nyholm. She learned the life of fishing and started gardening on the island. She also started to write poems after her husband died. Gurli lived alone in her house until the very last months of her life.
Gurli's house may be visited with guided tours. It is the only sight where you have to buy a ticket. There aren't any other fees on the island and you may visit other museum buildings without any entrance fee.
It is quite easy to visit Pentala Island. Just hop aboard an archipelago boat. You find archipelago boat docks or piers in Suomenoja, Suinonsalmi, Soukka (Klobben), Laurinlahti and Kivenlahti. Travel time is 20-45 minutes. If you are coming from the city center of Helsinki, take a metro train (a subway) to Finnoo (walking time from Finnoo Metro Station to Suomenoja Harbor about 15 minutes / 1.3 kilometers) or Soukka (walking time from Soukka Metro Station to Klobben Archipelago Boat Dock about 20 minutes / 1.6 kilometers).
