点评:Friday 17th January and a visit to this Lake was one of the stops on our all day Jamboulay Tour of the island.
We took a turn off the Grand Etang (Road) and drove along what could be described as a country lane up to the Lake.
It is located in the Grand Etang National Park and is 1,740 feet above sea level. It measures around 36 to 37 acres of fresh water.
There was a small viewing platform which juts into the lake, which we were able to walk along and look out over the Lake.
A nearby information board informs readers that the Lake is situated in twelve thousand year old extinct volcano. This subterranean world is home to diverse aquatic Flora and Fauna. The Flora includes Turion, Reed and Horsetail and the Aquatic Fauna includes Red Swordtail, Koi and Guppy.
Concrete steps lead from the Lake into the National Park, we walked up a flight of steps and spent a short time in the Park.
At the time of our visit we were the only people there so it was an opportunity to enjoy the scenery which included the mountains, forest and the tranquility of the Lake.
There was a sign that indicated that Mona monkeys do frequent the Lake, there were none there at the time of our visit. However, we did see some monkeys when we stopped a few minutes later in the Forest.
This was a welcome stop on our Tour as we we driven around the Island, it was an opportunity to stretch our legs and enjoy the beauty of the place. The best way to visit is as part of a Tour with other attractions to see, a dedicated visit could be a bit disappointing.
