Little Wild Horse and Bell Canyon Trail的点评
点评：Little Wild Horse Canyon is just a few miles from Goblin Valley State Park. If you plan to visit one of the areas it would be a shame not to include the other in your itinerary.
Neither of us (a couple age 73 and 63) had ever experienced a slot canyon before. Unfortunately, we spent more time than expected at the state park and didn’t arrive at Little Wild Horse Canyon until 6:00 P.M. This was in mid-October, and we were concerned with the amount of daylight we had remaining. We agreed to hike for 30-minutes and then turn around. The trail begins in a wide wash and perhaps after 20 minutes the trail splits with Little Wild Horse Canyon going to the right and Bell Canyon to the left. We went right.
There were a few obstacles that we had to climb over or navigate around but nothing that came close to preventing us from continuing on the trail. After a few minutes we entered the slot canyon and the fun began. After 30-minutes, neither of wanted to stop. Both of us wanted to see, what was around the next corner. The canyon is very narrow and twisty in this section. We continued on, and soon met another couple that were headed back to the parking lot. They indicated we were just about to the end of the first slot canyon. (Little Wild Horse Canyon has multiple narrow sections and then opens up before you enter the next one). It’s hard to explain the anticipation of wanting to know and see, what is beyond the next twist or curve in the canyon. We continued to the end of the first section (40 Minutes from when we started) and were able to return to the parking lot with ample light.
Note 1 - We take a lot of photos and are not speedy hikers.
Note 2 – Be sure to check the weather before entering the canyon. You do not want to be in the canyon if it is raining anywhere in the area.
We spent 7 full days in the Green River / Moab area and for both of us, this hike ranked in the top three activities of our trip.
