点评:My husband and I did the Via Ferrata climb sunset/sunrise tour with Trolltunga Active October 4-5, 2024. It was one of the most amazing experiences of our lives. We had wonderful guides and we were fortunate to have a very small group, so basically, we had our own personal guide, Niels. Niels is the epitome of what a guide should be. His main focus was on safety, but he also wanted to ensure we had a great experience and a lot of fun. We are in our 50s and this climb was not difficult for us, other than a couple of tricky, challenging areas on the ferrata, but we took it slow, and Niels made sure we had lots of breaks and he went at our pace. The climb in the boulder field was more difficult than the ferrata climb, IMO.
We started out with a short walk along the river and then started climbing up the mountain on a trail, and then through a boulder field. The ferrata was divided into three walls. The first wall was about 80 percent of the climb. There were places you could "rest", but still stay tied off at all times. The last two walls were shorter. After the last wall you still have to hike on a decent steep grade to get to the domes, where we dropped our stuff off, took a short break and then hiked the rest of the way to Trolltunga without our packs (so much easier!). Niels was great and repelled down so he could get some amazing shots of us on the Trolltunga. After watching the sunset at Trolltunga, we hiked back (in the dark) to our domes where Niels made us a really nice hot dinner (food is from the Trolltunga Hotel and was very good!) We preselected our meals before the hike that morning. We had apple cider wine and dessert before we retired to our warm sleeping bags for the night. The dome sleeps five people, so we had three other lovely people in our dome. The dome is heated, but the heater had to be turned off for the night for safety reasons, but we stayed warm all night curled up in our sleeping bags. We woke up the next morning to the smell of coffee. Neils was already making breakfast for us. Breakfast was good and very filling (oatmeal, milk, coffee and tea, and cookies). We then started our decent down the mountain to parking lot 3, where a shuttle took us back down to the base. The morning hike only took about 3-4 hours. We had great weather for our ferrata climb, but rainy and windy the second day. We then shopped at the small outfitter store, bought some souvenirs (Julia, our guide for the hike down, designed and made several of the souvenirs, which we purchased! They are so lovely!) After shopping and buying snacks, Niels loaded us up in the van and drove us back to our hotel in Odda. (We stayed at Trolltunga Hotel and this is the only hotel where the meeting the night before the hike takes place, and the only hotel where the shuttle runs, so good place to choose to stay!) I am so glad we chose this tour company. They did not miss a thing and were so thorough and thought of everything. We were never left with questions. Niels and Julia gave us very thorough instructions every step of the way and we were never left wondering what to do, what was next, or how much longer to go. My husband is a safety engineer, so safety was our number one priority, and safety was always the number one priority for Niels and Julia. Niels constantly watched and coached us on the ferrata and made sure we were clipping correctly, reminding us to breathe through the tricky parts, and he was always helping us with our footing on the metal rungs. I also cannot write this review without mentioning Jack, the dog, our other tour guide. He made us so happy, as we were missing our dog from back home. He stayed on the trail with us the entire way and it was a joy having him with us. He is so friendly and such a good "guard dog."
If you are looking for a tour company to hike Trolltunga, Trolltunga Active is the only tour company to trust to make your experience safe and unforgettable, and I would recommend you ask for Niels and Julia to be your guides. We always felt safe, had fun, and this experience was the highlight of our two-week Norway trip!
