点评:As a travelling salesman I have the pleasure of travelling up and down the country sampling the delights of the early bird / OAP gossip club swim sessions.
I have experienced many a “fast lane breast stroker” or the ex breakfast box Olympian swimmer who, in their mind thinks they’re travelling at 1.20/100m but in fact they’re barely staying afloat.
But St Ives (Cambridgeshire) leisure centre is something else!
To start the swimmers clearly can’t understand what is FAST, MEDIUM and SLOW in lane speeds and that slow breast stroke clearly isn’t going to cut it in the world of front crawl.
There also seems to be primitive group huddling in the shallow end where the lesser spotted retiree will congregate in fear of the front crawl predator for the “safety in numbers, like a pack of seals avoiding a Orca” sort of way and socialise for large period of time that seems to out weigh their time swimming and casing the in coming front crawl shark to take evasive action as they cannot complete their length. And when the front crawler comes up for air they’ll implement their “this is our swimming pool stare” to deter them.
But aside from this the changing rooms are clean and the showers are warm. Just don’t hang around in the shallow end too long as you might not get out alive
