Fantastic visit to the Lochs

点评：We met our driver Paddy on a gray Friday morning after a quick walk over River Clyde. He gave us a quick overview and off we went!
In spite of the end of the morning commute, Paddy got us out of town and in quick order the trees were thicker and the hills grew greener ahead of us. We turned left off the road to the trails the company uses for off-roading to get up to the highest vistas.
Both of us had kind of ignored the fact we were going to get a chance to drive off-road in a manual vehicle on a muddy track. Fortunately, Paddy is an excellent and patient instructor. He reviewed how to maneuver the clutch and the brake to get into gear to start. Not to use a lot of gas, to let the car do the work.
I haven't driven a manual in about 30 years. First time back at it with the stick on my left was slightly scary. But the muscle memory came back immediately and I had tremendous fun. I even hit the gas a little bit to get us up the hill.
We hit a level spot, Paddy took over and got us to the top and we had a view of Loch Lomond and the islands within. The view shifted with the clouds making for a different look every few minutes.
Paddy had stories that filled the drive: history, the geography and the weather and his own experiences and camping in northern Scotland. Conversation didn't lag the entire trip.
We wound back down the hill and over to Loch Fyne for lunch at the George Hotel -- excellent!
