Chasing Waterfalls
Dorrigo Rainforest Centre的点评
点评：Our holiday was based on “chasing waterfalls”. Starting point in Armidale and finishing in Dorrigo. The waterfalls we saw in order were: Gara Gorge, Wollomombi Gorge, Ebor Falls, Dangar Falls and the best for last Dorrigo National Park. We stayed at The Frontier Motel, only a five-minute drive away but before we headed to Dorrigo National Park, the town has free filtered water available for all, which we quickly filled our empty bottles to take with us. We arrived a little before opening time, plenty of free parking and entry is only a measly $2 gold coin donation – the donation goes towards the ongoing running costs to preserve this stunning ancient rainforest for many generations. Dorrigo National Park Rainforest Centre provides an interactive display, that guides visitors through different aspects of rainforest – we didn’t do that but it’s worth noting if you want to be further educated and gain a better understanding of the rainforests. We, instead headed straight to the Skywalk first and took in the breathtaking views towards the coast over the Dorrigo National Park – there’s a sign of the views with clear labels, so you know what you’re observing. The Skywalk is a very short walk, only 75m and is stroller / wheelchair accessible. We wasted no time to do the 6.6km loop walk that includes two magnificent waterfalls, Tristania Falls (there is a short suspension bridge with outstanding views) and the Crystal Shower Falls (which you can venture behind the waterfall – a beautiful and unique experience). There’s an elevated path to hundreds of bird species – a birdwatcher’s delight (near The Glade picnic area), which we took, a great spot to rest and even have a toilet break and continue on with your walk… at this point, you are approximately 30 minutes away from where you started. Along our walk, we were fortunate enough to see lots of birdlife (including a Turkey) and a Blue Tongue Lizard. The 6.6km loop walk, inclusive of all the stops (the waterfalls, taking photos of what the rainforest was offering and our pitstop at The Glade picnic area) would easily take you at least 3hrs – take your time to stop and marvel at the beauty of nature. I would grade the walk ‘easy to moderate’, there are steep parts (the steepest part is at the beginning of the walk) but well worth it and please wear comfy walking shoes and definitely bring a bottle of water. Our last stop was at the Dorrigo Rainforest Centre, an exceptional store to buy gifts or treat / pamper yourself – there’s a huge range of products to please young and old, I bought the lemon myrtle bath salts and plum jams for myself. If you want to make it a full day, there is also a café - Canopy Café, opened 7 days a week (9am to 4pm) or simply bring with you a packed picnic and enjoy your lunch at The Glade picnic area. So… was Tristania and Crystal Shower Falls the best we have seen during our “chasing waterfalls” journey? I have to admit, they were all equally magnificent and unique in their own way… not just “another waterfall”. Well worth a visit and a beautiful place to have a picnic.
