点评:I had read about the exploits of Deborah during the battle of Cambrai, so I was really excited to be able to visit this museum with my brothers while we were touring the battlefields that our grandfather had fought at while serving in the Ulster Division during WW1 (Cambrai being one of them).
Before we left I sent an email to the museum to confirm opening times and Phillippe took the time to reply to me with details on the role played by the Ulster Division during the Battle of Cambrai (he is an expert on the battle).
The museum didn’t disappoint - it is well laid out and obviously a labour of love. Pride of place is given to the tank which is incredibly well preserved after being buried for all those years. The effort put into identifying the tank crew and contacting their families all adds to the intimacy of the museum. I was especially moved to learn that William Galway, one of the crewmen who was killed when the tank was hit, had previously been wounded serving in the Ulster Division on the Somme. He would have been in Thiepval Wood along with my grandfather on the first day of the Somme - to have survived that day only to be killed later on in the war is really sad.
Highly recommended.
