点评:Though I believe the Valley of Dreams is located just outside of the Ah-Shi-Sle-Pah Wilderness (it's on Navajo Nation land) it's in the same area so I'm including a review here. Good directions to the trailhead for Valley of Dreams can be found on the web, and the unpaved roads to there are very good except for the last mile or so to the trailhead. I had no trouble with my Subaru Crosstrek but if you're concerned about that last mile of road you could park at the last turn to the trailhead and hike the short extra distance (though my friend and I saw a pickup truck with a medium-sized travel trailer parked at the trailhead!). There's no actual trail from there but you'll see plenty of footprints and the basic route is shown on several websites including Alltrails, so it's pretty easy to get to the Valley of Dreams and it's a fairly short and easy hike across mostly level terrain.
Once you reach the Valley of Dreams you could spend hours exploring all the amazing rock formations that are all around. The best-known one is "Alien Throne", which may take a little time to find, but it's not that difficult. It's in the upper part of the Valley of Dreams area so you'll need to climb up around other rock formations to reach it. It's one of the most remarkable rock formations I've ever seen and well worth the effort. Be sure to wear good hiking boots, and bring plenty of water, use sunscreen, and wear a good sun hat since there's little to no shade anywhere along the route. My friend and I spent a couple of hours exploring here but you could easily spend a full day or even more. Very highly recommended if you're adventurous and don't mind unpaved roads and hiking where there are no trails.
As mentioned, the Valley of Dreams is on Navajo Nation land. As my friend and I were returning to the trailhead we met a Navajo guide with a small group of people - the only people we saw along the way. The guide told us that they've had increasing problems with visitors leaving trash, etc. Right now anyone is free to hike into this beautiful area, but the guide said that they may consider closing it off if visitors' behavior doesn't improve. So please be respectful if you visit this area, or any other area on Native American or public land.
