点评：We visited Caernarfon on Sunday, May 28, 2023. We stayed one night ant the Angelsey Arms which is set against the Caernarfon Castle on the seaside. This bridge leads from the park o one side the castle on the other. Our hotel room faced the bridge. In the morning on Monday, I walked across the bridge to the small castle like building on the park side and talked to the young man who had an office inside. He was the bridge operator and gave me quite a bit of history. In the old days, there was a land bridge connecting the two sides. It was removed long ago and replaced by a ferry. The small castle-like building was built in 1822 for the ferry operator. In 1899 a swing bridge was built and was argued over by the ferry operator for loss of compensation.
The bridge was replaced by the current pedestrian bridge in 1970. You can still see some of the wooden supports for the original bridge as you cross.
The operator told me he may open the bridge later in the day when the tide would be higher. Unfortunately, we were leaving soon and didn't get to see it open. I did enjoy the conversation and walking across it for the nice view.
