Interesting and informative, well worth a visit
West Bay Discovery Centre的点评
点评:Friday 25th April we visited West Bay, a coastal resort in Dorset. We were here to track down the elephant statues dotted around the village, in the Stampede on the Coast. It was also an opportunity to do some sightseeing and visit points of interest including this Museum.
It is located near the town end of the East Pier in the former Methodist Church which has appeared on television. Over the entrance to the Museum is the old Church's balcony.
There is no admission charge, however the Museum does depend on donations from visitors towards it's upkeep and maintenance.
The wall and cabinets are filled with artefacts, pictures and information all telling stories, both past and present, about West Bay. The museum also contains hands-on interactive activities.
The Museum does run additional activities for children during school holidays. This leads on nicely to our favourite display, which was hung on the wall. It was an artwork created in August 2021 by nearly 150 children who attended an art workshop. Entitled "Turning the Tide" it highlights problems of plastic polution in the oceans.
The Museum is accessible to all with it's even old floorboards makes it very easy to navigate the exhibits.
It is predominately run by volunteers, we found the staff to be very friendly and helpful.
There is a small gift shop area which include locally produced goods, sales here generate income to help keep the Museum going.
