Our hike was two years ago, but I still want to write this review.
After doing much research, looking at maps, and reading hundreds of reviews, I decided Sierra Nevada was the place to go for our hike in Colombia, and Leo could be the man. So I contacted him directly, as I definitely was in need of a custom-planned tour: We were six, all one family. My 82-year-old father; me; my 16-year-old daughter; my wife; her 27-year-old son; and his girlfriend, who was hesitating a lot, fearing too little comfort and being a person not searching for sportive challenges at all.
I told Leo all that—and that we weren't interested in things like the trail to the Lost City—as I really wanted it to be an authentic and private experience without any crowds.
And wow. Already in the planning phase, Leo put so much effort and time into incorporating everything I asked for: various heights, landscapes, "waterfalls please"—on a five-night hike. He mixed his standard routes, found ways to connect them for us on paths he had never walked before with a group.
He decided to have a second guide on the hike to especially take care of my old father and planned two mules: one for luggage, one to ride on if someone got tired.
We got picked up in Minca, and already the hours-long ride to the starting point, while being comfortable, was a nice adventure with lots of great views. The starting point itself was stunning—such crisp, clean air.
And then we had five great days. Leo was such a friendly guide, knowing so much about plants and animals on our way—and while talking, still was aware of everything needed by any single person of our group at any moment.
The locations where we spent our nights all were intimate experiences of rural life and friendly, open-minded locals—from a cafetera, which surprisingly had water-powered satellite internet, over farms to places that were on the switch to sustainable eco-tourism. But tourists? We didn't see a single one throughout all five days—except ourselves, of course.
When it became clear that my father didn't need as much support as expected—but most of the rest of the group needed even much more—Leo organized more mules overnight. And one day, we even realized that the path we walked was spontaneously cleared of plants just the day before to make it possible for everyone in our group. Insane effort.
Leo, thank you so much. As it was a three-generation hike, my family—this was a once-in-a-lifetime experience not only I will never forget. For me, it was a (my) dream come true. And yes, I know: That wasn't easy for you at all. I guess one night or the other, you asked yourself: "Why the heck did I accept this request, and why am I doing this?" Please rest assured: It made a lot of sense and a huge difference for a group of people.

One reason why I contacted Leo in the first place after reading all the reviews of different tour operators and guides was that there was one old, very bad review of someone who, in his review, told a horrific story about his trip with Leo. But Leo's response to that review convinced me that Leo would be just the right person and guide. And I was so correct with my assumption.
