点评：It's a cultural milestone in Ha Noi at this stage to cross having done this off the list, so why not.
We visited on a Wednesday afternoon and the train was due at 15.15.
There are two train steets intersected by a trafficked roadway, so if one is very crowded simply cross the road, however to be assured of a table and a good vantage point, you really would want to be there an hour or so early and simply enjoy the ambience watching the world go by.
Make sure you ask the bar owner whether your table will be moved for the train, as ours was. and if so, simply opt for a table on the other side of the tracks. The ones at the bar side will remain static.
Of course, food and drink items are a little more expensive there, but not excessively so. It is a tourist trap, after all. However, I didn't find the owners in any way pushy, even though it really is only during train times that most people buy anything.
There is an air of excitement once the arrival time approaches, and many many tourists try to position themselves amongst the occupied tables, only to be moved on by the bar owners, and rightly so. why should you impede on their customers without buying anything ?
Tourists who hadn't aligned themselves to some bar were literally pushed out of train street for the train to pass.
The train passing takes but a few minutes, yet there is a lot of excitement and energy, and if you are positioned correctly as discussed above you will feel the wind of the train as it passes within inches of your face.
It's an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon, but do it yourself, there is nothing a tour guide can do for you that you can't do yourself, so save your money, google maps will get you there.
There may also appear to be some control and possibly the need to buy a ticket to gain entry for the evening trains, so be aware.
