Swan Song visit prior to Refurbishment Closure

点评：Major exhibitions over for the year, this gallery is transitioning to shut down mode, Cafe is not open, the classical sculptures packed up, Heidelberg school en plein air not there but still, plenty to see. I came for a day trip by train (station 15 mins brisk walk away), primarily for the annual tulip display in Pall Mall precinct nearby but as that did not take too much time of my click crazy self, I decided to pop in for over an hour before catching the 3.26 pm back to Melb. Train commute from Melbourne is so easy with all day cheap one rate fares✨️✨️
In Nov 2025, this gallery will close for renovations & upgrade for 2 years! Will city of Bendigo survive this temporary but prolonged closure..🤷🏽🤷🏽♀️🤷♂️. The special exhibitions held here have been such a tourism jackpot for Bendigo for so long! Hospitality & dining have benefited greatly from it.
My recent visit 23/9/25, I gatecrashed into the 2 pm free guided tour 15 mins later. No worries, tour guide was very personable. Guide was also very good with my wandering attention span which was haring to view a lot before bolting to catch the commuter! Still, I did listen & was captivated by the early purchases by this fledgling gallery in a colonial town called Sandhurst which became uniquely Bendigo.
Staff are welcoming & friendly. Toilets clean & the layout is in classical gallery style, rooms named after early donors/patrons & colour themed. Wheel chair friendly with bag/cloakroom service.
Pity to rush through the indigenous art section. As with all galleries, the permanent art on display is rotated. Alas, will wait 2 years after refurbishment to visit again. My last was for Elvis exhibition in June 2022 - the madding crowds had me gasping for fresh air! Such is the popularity of the "specials" that this gallery has hosted & will continue to do so in the future. Looking forward to it 🤩✨️

我最近一次参观是在2025年9月23日，15分钟后我匆匆参加了下午2点的免费导览游。不用担心，导游非常亲切。导游也很善于引导我，因为我注意力不集中，总是想看很多东西，然后就匆匆忙忙地赶上通勤者！不过，我还是听取了导游的建议，并被这家位于殖民小镇桑赫斯特的新兴画廊早期的收藏所吸引，而桑赫斯特正是本迪戈独具特色的代表。
工作人员热情友好。洗手间干净整洁，布局是古典画廊风格，房间以早期捐赠者/赞助人的名字命名，并以色彩为主题。提供行李/衣帽间服务，方便轮椅通行。
可惜匆匆忙忙地逛完了原住民艺术区。和所有画廊一样，永久展出的艺术品是轮换的。唉，只能等到翻新两年后再来参观了。我最后一次去是2022年6月的猫王展览——疯狂的人群让我喘不过气来！这家画廊举办的“特别活动”如此受欢迎，未来还会继续举办。期待它🤩✨️
