A sacred, special place inviting contemplation and reflection in a lovely rural setting.
The Abbey of Gethsemani的点评
点评:Not a Catholic but it doesn't seem to matter. This is a place to come to reflect and recharge whatever your religion. It is hidden in the hills of central Kentucky , south of Louisville, southwest of Lexington. Right in the middle of bourbon country so one could combine sin and sanctity in the same trip if he were so inclined. But for me this was a peaceful 2 day spiritual respite. There are 7 different services throughout the day - the first being "Vigil" at 3:15AM! I attended most of them and was impressed with the quality for the monks' singing. Fr. Carlos offered a welcoming greeting on the first night and an inspiring homile the next day and was available for private counseling. The retreat is "Silent" except if you are out walking on the beautiful trails , and even then silence seemed appropriate. Guest rooms for retreatants are predictably spare and meals are simple. The Cistercian/Trappist monks are vegetarian but retreatants are served meat with their main meal. There is a gift shop with lots of R.C. literature and the monks' homemade fudge and fruit cake. In the same building is a small museum and an instructive video about the abbey. There is no posted charge for the retreat but contributions, of course, are welcome.
