An Interesting Look At A Different Way of Life

点评：This is an oddball venue because it is an example of people (all male) who have chosen a life of seclusion and prayer over a life in modern society. The monks at the abbey supports themselves through the sale of fruitcakes, fudge and other products from their 2,000 acre farm where they raise most of their own food. They also host religious retreats which brings in additional revenue. It's a little out of the way but we were visiting Bardstown, KY and it was close enough for us to take a look. We stayed for one of their mid-day prayer sessions held in their chapel. They maintain a strict schedule of prayer and although speaking is permitted it is minimized. The late Thomas Merton is probably one of their most famous members and was a prolific religious writer. They are a Catholic organization and follow the guidance of the Pope in Rome. Allow an hour or two.
