点评:When we decided to start looking at relocating to Wilmington, we made several trips to visit family. On our first trip, we had planned on a Bucees stop. After leaving there, I started seeing the SOB signs, I informed my hubby we would have to make a stop.
Long before Bucces came to town, there was South of the Boarder. This one-stop travel destination has been serving folks since for over 70 years.
Alan Schafer started as a beer stand and later added a ten seat grill. In 1954, 20 motel rooms were added. The location was the halfway point between NY and Florida. By 1965, the place had a massive explosion as the 95 by pass would make the business visible to several exits. This would also be when the business mascot, Pedro, was turned into the now iconic 104 sign.
Today, visitors can fill up their car, their tummy, and rest for the night. Visitors can take the elevator up the 200-foot Sombrero Tower for a birds eye view. There is also an arcade. For the kids, there is Pedroland Park and reptile lagoon for the whole family. There are 4 dining options, gas station, truck stop, lots of shopping, a convention center, a nostalgic motor inn and an RV park!
This is absolutely one of my favorite places. I was so glad when I found out I could stop. Don't overlook this gem.
