Dambulla, Sigiriya & Village Safari - AWESOME!

点评：After a delightful Galle Fort & Tea Factory tour conducted by Nuwan, we booked him for yet another full day adventure. This time we headed northwards to Dambulla & Sigiriya for what became one of the highlights of our trip.
Once again, Nuwan promptly collected us early in the morning from our hotel in Colombo, and then safely navigated the congested streets.
As we left the hustle & bustle behind, he pointed out things of interest like brown monkeys hanging in nearby trees and darting across the road. We stopped briefly to take photos as some creeped nearer to the car with keen fixation on nabbing our phones from us. Nuwan purchased curd and treacle, a local delicacy, for us to sample along the way.
Our first attraction was Dambulla Cave temple. The hike was very daunting, with us having to make numerous rest stops before reaching the top. Drink lots of water on the way up and pace yourself accordingly! Once there, the temple exhibits, and panoramic views were well worth the climb.
We were then off to the famous Sigiriya rock. Words cannot describe how awestruck it was to witness this massive fortress closeup and in person. Our trip to Sri Lanka was capped off by this unique experience.
Our afternoon ended with one of the most peaceful jaunts we've ever encountered in our travels. A native village safari - which included a ride in an oxcart, then a canoe trip to an authentic village kitchen where we watched as native dishes were prepared by hand and then offered for us to sample. Walking through a rice paddy in the cool of the evening was a perfect culmination of a delightful day.
The entire itinerary was created by Nuwan, who took great pride in delivering a memorable experience for us.
