Overwhelming, incredible murals from Orozco

点评：This just looks like a big fortress from the outside. I think it was originally built in the early 1800s as a place to tend to orphans and the elderly. Inside the massive walls are loads of little courtyards and arcades. In the middle is a large chapel. Much of the place is closed to the public, but a few rooms are open with special exhibits.
The must-see attraction, however, is in the main chapel. This has a series of murals painted by Orozco. The entire upper level of the chapel is covered in murals, and a lot of archways on the lower level as well. He had a very unsubtle approach in his art, and even the depictions of people are larger than life. It's easy to sit here staring for a good while to sense all the emotion he has flowing from these. Death, torture, and war are his themes of choice, although he has, for fun, added a few portraits of Shakespeare and Cervantes for good measure! Although there are other Orozco murals around the city, this one is the best in my opinion.
Also, entry is free on Tuesdays.
