Note: DO NOT follow Google Maps navigation that directs explorers off U.S. Route 97 North by taking a left onto Lower Bridge Market Road. Again, you DO NOT want to do this as it is about a 4 mile and 10 minute journey through farmlands and farm equipment on farm roads driving at farm equipment speeds. These are some big, wide pieces of farm equipment so you can't pass them. You are just stuck. At the end of of the road is a turning loop where we parked. Instead of turning left at Lower Bridge Market Road, just drive 3.4 miles more north on US 97 and you'll be able to turn left right into the official parking lot of the Peter Skene Ogden State Scenic Viewport which is also a State Park. Here, you will find a parking lot with actual line striping. There are even restrooms and picnic tables. This is a rest area.
Points of interest to check out here besides the Crooked River itself are the Oregon Trunk Rail Bridge, which opened to trains in 1911, and the Crooked River (High) Bridge, which opened to vehicle traffic in 1926. When constructed, the High Bridge was the highest single arch span in the nation at 295 feet and handled a few vehicles crossing it per day. In the late 1990s, traffic increased to over 8,000 vehicle crossings per day so ODOT began building a new crossing bridge. Almost three years later, the new bridge opened in September 2000, and the older, still structurally sound bridge, was closed to all traffic except for pedestrians.
