点评:Monday 28th October and we walked here, the short distance, from our Hotel, Riu Palace Los Americas.
It is not that difficult to find as there is a large built stone structure indicating that the ferry leaves from here to Isla Mujeres.
We turned up hoping to catch the 10.45 ferry from here to the Island. Whilst we were booking our tickets, online the night before, we were advised to turn up thirty minutes before departure. On this occasion good job we did as the pier was damaged and we needed to go to Playa Tortugas, down the road to catch the ferry.
In front of the beach there is a square piece of land, predominantly used as a parking area. Pathways on both sides lead down to the small beach
Along one side there is a low level modern building that has been built in an ancient Myan style. This is home to a number of tour operators or selling trips, this includes Base Xcaret
On the other side of the Square is Paso a la Playa, a pathway to the beach. At the end of the path is the ferry ticket office alongside a bar/restaurant.
This is a small stretch of public beach with soft white sand and washed by the calm shallow turquoise coloured waters of the Caribbean Sea. The beach is flanked on both sides by a small jetty jutting out into the sea, all suffering from the ravages of time. The longer wooden ferry pier is also a feature.
Along the beach there are sunbeds and umbrellas that are available to rent. There are also some tables and seats. There is still plenty of room to spread out towels and beach mats and enjoy the beach.
Also on the beach the are some water sport activities where equipment is available to rent, including paddle boarding, boat rentals and windsurfing. There are a couple of restaurant/bars here as well.
On the roadside the is a bus stop where the local busses stop, so easy to access the beach. There are also a number of supermarkets, convenience stores nearby.
Base Xcaret
