The best choice for an Omo Valley adventure

点评：This was the tour of a lifetime. I contacted Melak because I wanted a knowledgeable local guide in the Omo Valley and not a big company. He planned a customized trip based on my interests. During my five-day tour, we visited seven indigenous peoples, a tribal market, Lake Turkana, the Omo archaeological site, and Mago National Park. Melak took care of everything, including arranging lodging, meals, entrance fees, and payments as needed. This made the whole trip easy and stress-free for me. He also contracted with Abi, an excellent driver who went above and beyond to make the trip enjoyable and comfortable.
A challenge with tours like these is to make sure you make authentic connections and don’t just approach it as a “human safari” for social media photos. This can be challenging due to language barriers. Melak did a good job facilitating genuine experiences by working with other local guides who live with the different peoples and were able to take us past the tourist areas and into real villages. He also knows so many people in the towns and villages, which allowed me to meet and eat with a lot of folks throughout my stay and hear their perspectives on life. This is what real travel is all about, and it made the journey so much more fulfilling and educational.
I highly recommend Melak and Abi for anyone who wants to immerse themselves in this fascinating and unique part of the world.
