点评：In the historical centre of downtown Victoria, close by the clock tower, is an attractive colonial building that has been restored back to its original form to house - since 2018 - the National Museum of History, a must visit for anyone interested in this aspect of the islands. The grand house dates from 1885 and is thus one of the oldest still standing in Victoria. It is made from coral limestone, timber and iron.
Originally it had been built for and paid by the New Oriental Bank Corporation, once the most powerful Eastern exchange bank with its main base in Bombay, but due to bad loans to coffee and sugar plantations it had to be liquidated in 1892, thus just seven years after they had this house built in Victoria. The building was next used by the Eastern Telegraph Company, before becoming a court house till 2013.
