Intricate stone carvings on temples, all without the crowds

点评：This is just maybe 20 minutes down the road from Uxmal, and while the buildings and complex are smaller, it is equally, if not more, impressive for the sheer amount and the condition of the carvings on the walls. When we visited the place was empty save 2 other cars of visitors. Admission was much less than Uxmal, although payable only in cash.
Essentially what is excavated today is a single courtyard surrounded by temples and houses. From the map, though, if they fully excavate this it'll be larger than Uxmal someday. The main site is the Codz Pop, a temple to your right as you enter. It's simply incredible--a wall a good 5 meters high and maybe 30 long totally covered in massively intricate carvings. By and large, they are in excellent condition as they have been uncovered relatively recently. Unlike Uxmal, there are a few ruins of individual houses off to one side of the courtyard, too.
Before you leave, go arcoss the road to visit the archway. It's a few hundred meters up a clear path, standing by itself, serving I think as a welcome gate to Kabah on the road connecting to Uxmal. It's a very impressive example of an old triangular arch.
