点评：I absolutely loved this one-hour cruise to Portage Glacier — it turned out to be one of the most memorable experiences of our trip, even after already seeing Glacier Bay and College Fjord on a larger cruise. Located just about an hour south of Anchorage, this compact but impactful tour is perfect for travelers looking to get up close to a glacier without committing to an all-day excursion.
The MV Ptarmigan glides through the ice-dotted waters of Portage Lake, offering stunning views of the glacier from the water. The ride is smooth, the ship is heated and comfortable, and the scenery is simply spectacular. I was hesitant at first — thinking, do we really need another glacier tour? — but this ended up being one of my favorites.
The crew made the experience even better. Our guide (I believe his name was George) managed to blend science with humor in a way that was both educational and entertaining. The staff also went above and beyond by taking photos for guests and making everyone feel welcome.
Before boarding, we stopped at the small café just up the hill from the dock — a perfect pre-cruise treat. The soup was hearty, the homemade cookies were delicious, and the cozy atmosphere added to the charm of the day.
For the price, this is hands down the best glacier cruise in Alaska. If you're anywhere near Anchorage, don’t skip it. Even if you think you've “seen enough glaciers,” this one might just surprise you — it certainly did for me.
