Easy day trip from Mexico City - Plan at least 5 hours to visit

点评：The pyramids are located about 1 hour outside of Mexico City. It's an easy drive from MC Central. We hired a car service for ease of reaching the site. The entire complex is quite large. There are 5 entry points (gates). I believe tickets can be purchased at Gates 1 & 2. Then, you can drive or walk to each section.
We started at Gate 2 and ended at Gate 5.
We allocated only 4 hours for the pyramids, which included lunch. No where near the amount of time needed. We could have spent 5+ hours at the pyramids alone. And we did not use a guide. We no doubt missed some important details. We did research the site before going but would have learned more with a guide.
There are toll booths at gates 1 & 2 to buy tickets - hold on to your ticket should you need to leave the park and return through another gate. Very minimal checkpoints to show tickets upon return to the site but you'll still need your ticket. Entry areas all have little souvenir shops so no need to worry about that "special" item to buy. There will be 10 more during your visit here. Once past the gauntlet of shops, there is a short walk to the first temple at Gate 2, temple of Quetzalcoatl. It contains a small pyramid, which may be the only one you can climb at this time. Short but very steep steps. Be prepared with hat and sturdy shoes. Nice reliefs and features on the opposite of the temple, so make sure to walk completely around the temple.
The pyramids of the Sun and Moon are impressive. However, they are blocked from climbing.
The most impressive site was Palacio del Quetzalpapalotl. The reliefs were very well preserved, and the interior space was in great shape.
Near Gate 5 is a botanical garden and Museum. There are more than a dozen restaurants and a few hotels around the perimeter to the site, just outside the gates.
If you decide to purchase anything from a booth or those walking around selling souvenirs, negotiate like crazy. Competition is fierce and you can usually pay half of what they are asking. Some may take US currency instead of pesos, so ask!
