We spent several days in Mexico City with Jorge Mendoza as our guide, and he was exceptional. He was highly responsive over email and WhatsApp, making planning easy and seamless.
Jorge is truly a font of knowledge, giving us the full sweep of Mexican history—from the pre-Hispanic period through the colonial era and into independence—while helping connect the dots across the centuries. His tour of the National Museum of Anthropology was a highlight, bringing clarity to what could otherwise feel overwhelming.
He also illuminated Mexican culture in memorable ways, from the foundational ingredients of traditional cuisine to indigenous cosmology. Particularly fascinating was how he connected magical realism in modern literature and film to longstanding ideas about the mystical forces at work in the universe.
His insights into murals and modern art added another dimension, showing how artists express identity, history, and social themes.
Just as important, Jorge challenges preconceived notions and invites you to enlarge your understanding of Mexico. Our tours included the historic center, the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and the Plaza de las Tres Culturas—each enriched by his context and perspective.
