点评:The waves and tide here get very strong. Combined with its shallow and somewhat rocky presentation, this can be a recipe for danger if you’re not careful. The life guard on duty was reading from a script of warnings every 20 minutes or so, reminding folks to not turn their back on the waves and mentioning that Magic Sands is one of the most dangerous beaches on Hawaii for spinal and neck injuries.
It’s pretty and there is parking both north (on east side of the road) and south (on west side of the road) of the beach (south is the official parking lot where you will also found restrooms and showers). The beach area is fairly small but there was plenty of room around midday during the week in June.
If you have children under 10, this is not a good beach for swimming, but they will still enjoy the sand and rocks. Age 10 and above should be fine if they are smart and strong swimmers, like the junior life guards we saw practicing their ocean swimming. If you approach from the north, it’s hard to tell that there are restrooms and showers at the south end (I only noticed on a run past the beach a few days after we visited). Be careful if you park across the street and use the crosswalks because the beach is right off Ali’i Drive—convenient location, but a lot of distracted drivers on that road.
