点评:Our purpose in visiting Saffron Walden was to see an exhibition in the Fry Gallery. I had not been there before and was very pleasantly surprised by this little jewel tucked away in a lane off Castle Street. It is not a large exhibition space, but it makes up for this by packing a lot in, and wonderfully, at this money-hungry time it is free. The exhibition celebrates the work of the ‘Bardfield Artists’ a local group who lived and worked in Great Bardfield and Saffron Walden and displays a lovely representative collection of ceramics, paintings, books, wallpapers and other artifacts produced by the group. The exhibition was popular but not crowded and helpful guides at the entrance explained the arrangements of the exhibits to visitors as they arrived. The gallery backs onto the Bridge End Gardens which are well worth a visit too. Walk a little further down the lane past the gardener’s cottage and there you are.
