Vredefort Dome的点评
点评：Parys is a charming, small town with fewer crowds, making it a perfect destination for nature lovers. I visited with my family for two days and learned about its fascinating history. Around 2.2 billion years ago, a massive meteorite, approximately 10 km in diameter, struck the Earth, creating the Vredefort Dome. This enormous structure spans about 360 km from Welkom to Johannesburg. The Vredefort Dome is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, one of only seven in South Africa.
The area around Vredefort and Parys is part of this heritage site, believed to be the impact location of the meteorite. Although the entire dome is too vast to see at once, visitors are actually inside it when they explore the area. We visited the Koedoeslaagte Trail Park, and the same dirt road led us to the Vredefort Dome heritage site, about 12-14 km away. The meteorite that created this dome is thought to be twice the size of the one that caused the extinction of the dinosaurs.
We also enjoyed a Parkrun at Egweni River Lodge, located next to the Vaal River.
