Great guided tour of Vredefort Dome World Heritage Site

点评：What a privilege to visit the Vredefort Dome world heritage site with Christo Meyer from Kopjeskraal Country Lodge in the Parys, Free State area with a tour to the Leeukop Quarry and then a trek up the mountain from the guesthouse in an authentic 1960’s cruiser to see the spectacular vistas over the Dome area from the first impact ring left by the massive meteorite 2025M years ago. DO NOT trust the navigation apps (or pin drops) on your cellphone - DO GET an official guide. DO NOT expect to see a crater or a meteorite. This is about unique geology in a beautiful natural environment and Christo’s enthusiasm and knowledge made it all come alive. We saw Parys pink granite, Pseudotachylite, Impact breccias, Vredefort Granophyre, shatter cones, quarzites and much more. We paid a few hundred ZAR pp per day, but honestly, this is a priceless experience for the amateur enthusiast and even a great photo opportunity for the social media gang! They have finished construction of a Kopjeskraal guided geo hiking trail soon to be inaugurated in Set 2026.
