点评:I feel compelled to write a novel because this is our favorite experience in Peru. This is the perfect stop if you are looking to take the train to MachuPicchu from Ollantaytambo. The host Marco was amazing and super accommodating. They arranged the entire day's itinerary for us including transportation from Cusco and visiting Moray, Maras and Ollantaytambo.
The experience was mind-blowing from the second we stepped out of the car. Andean Colors is located at the perfect spot in the sacred valley, allowing for the most majestic view we've seen during this trip. We started with getting to know the llamas and taking them on a scenic walk in the beautiful valley (great photo ops here). After that we learned how to make natural dyes from minerals, plants, and insects. We had hands on experience cleaning, dyeing, spinning and weaving the wool the traditional way, an experience that's hard to get anywhere else. We also had an amazing lunch with the family, absolutely delicious and, dare I say, much better than the touristy restaurants.
What makes this experience truly unique is the people! Marco, Paula and everyone in this community are the most genuine, kindhearted, and generous people you'll ever encounter. I complimented Paula's dress and they immediately offered to dress us up in their traditional clothing and let us take many pictures. They were extremely patient and kind to us as beginners, and walked us step by step through the weaving process. We were super indecisive when choosing the colors for the bracelet because, frankly, everything looks stunning! And Marco allowed us to take all the colors we liked even if it meant more work for him. We didn't have enough time to finish the bracelet, and Marco offered to make a tutorial video and told us we could call him if we forgot anything!
When we were at their super cute shop, we picked a sweater and they literally pointed out a flaw we did not notice at all and offered a discount on that piece. Talking about integrity!
Marco and Paula treated us as family, and we cannot be grateful enough that they have been part of our journey.
I want to stress that this experience is a "social project", meaning their proceeds directly support single mothers and women suffering from domestic violence. Marco is as knowledgeable about the Andean traditions as he is passionate about uplifting the community. This is a MUST TRY! I will recommend 1000/10.
