Montreal's version of Sacré-Cœur Basilica in Paris
圣约瑟夫皇室山教堂的点评
点评：This is the large domed Catholic Church and Minor Basilica situated to the southwest of Mount Royal. Construction was completed in 1967 in Italian Renaissance style and shares resemblance to Sacré-Cœur Basilica in Paris. It is very impressive viewing from the outside and as you approach the complex up the various lifts and stairways.
The Oratory complex is open from 6.30am to 9pm daily. We recently visited before 7am, arriving before the large tour buses began to pull into the large carpark. It was nice viewing the Art Deco interior of the main basilica before many other tourists had arrived. It is a nice contrast to the exterior of the oratory and display of 20th-century artworks, stained glass, wood carvings, hanging ring neat the main altar.
There is a also second more traditional chapel, crypt, small museum, cafe, gift shop along with public toilets and garden. We also enjoyed seeing the St. Joseph monument in front of the Oratory as well as the 'Angels Unawares' sculpture (2022) reproduction by Timothy Schmalz on one of the upper terrance levels. This is the same as the original work (2019) that you can see in front of St. Peter's Basilica at The Vatican. All in all, our visit lasted around one hour which seemed about right.
