I knew we would be in the Algarve for my son's birthday, and he isn't a fan of the beach, so I booked a 5 hour boat trip to celebrate his special day. We booked it in January for an August trip. It was confirmed multiple times by our hotel. It was a 1 hour drive each way from our hotel. When we arrived for our boat tour, the employee look flustered and called her boss. The boat was not there. They came up with an excuse that the boat was "broken", but I could very clearly see that there was another appointment penciled in for that morning at the same time as our tour. This excuse didn't make sense for a lot of reasons, but the primary one being that wouldn't they call the hotel or client and notify them that the boat was broken and the tour couldn't take place as planned? They never did that. Then all of a sudden they said we could "go to the beach" until 1:30PM and then we could do the 5 hour tour. That didn't work for many reasons, including the fact that we had a big birthday dinner planned for my son and we wouldn't have gotten back in time. But also--how do they miraculously fix a boat in just a few hours? It didn't make sense. It seemed clear to me that they simply double booked and then lied about it. The next day they offered us another ride at 20% off the original price, but I don't like people who conduct business that way. They ruined my son's birthday, and 20% off ins't going to fix that.
