The two of us saw the Sheep Detectives on a Saturday morning, billed at 10am. Unfortunately there was a period of uncertainty where nothing was happening, about 20 minutes, followed by half an hour of chaos, before eventually it was possible to say that the feature film had truly begun without problems. After the period of nothing happening, there seemed to be an attempt to start the feature. Three different things went wrong; possibly one got repeated. There would be sound without vision; vision with a clearly unrelated sound track of songs (including an oddly appropriate Beatles "We can work it out"); another restart that resulted in neither sound nor vision. We in the audience would sit waiting, because we naturally assumed that the problem was known about and someone would be on to it. When I went to find anyone each time, I was met with complete surprise: no-one had realised that there was anything wrong - this total surprise happened every time. I had explain what the audience were experiencing, each time. Then someone had to find out how to fix it. Fortunately the feature properly started after these problems and did eventually continue without problems. Fortunately we had allowed plenty of lea-way on our car parking, otherwise we would have had to leave the occasion before the end. Someone at the end of the whole occasion said there were some problems with the transmissions and a voucher was offered. Please, please in future -- (1) Ensure that your volunteer guidance tells the volunteer to look into the auditorium to check that the sound and vision of the feature are operating as they should. Much time was wasted because the audience assumed that those involved with the operation knew what the audience was failing to experience. (2) Provide adequate technical support for whoever is operating the IT
