Expressive sculptures of Niki de Saint Phalle

点评：The modern building of the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec with its spiral staircase is absolutely stunning. The art was very contemporary, but I did like some of the abstract paintings mostly for their color palette, not for the meaning.
The Brousseau Inuit Art collection of sculptures created by the Inuit people residing in the Arctic regions of Canada was an unusual and pretty impressive sight.
I also liked the originality and whimsical forms of the glass vases, chandeliers, and other art objects created by local artists.
The highlight of my visit was an extensive exhibit of phenomenal sculptor, Niki de Saint Phalle. Her creativity is boundless and her social causes, such as her fierce fight for women rights and against AIDS, are noble and commendable. She opened her own line of perfume to finance her sculptures and was very successful as an entrepreneur. Her sculptures are so bright, intricate and immediately recognizable - she created her own style not comparable with anyone else’s.
Her major project was The Tarot Garden in Tuscany and now I regret I haven’t seen it yet. The idea of her garden is similar to the Gaudi’s Park Güell in Barcelona, but it looks very different. There is a an interesting short film about the tedious process of building the Tarot Garden. My photos will definitely tell you more about her work.
Then we had lunch at the museum cafe, which was acceptable but unassuming. My husband liked his smoked meats sandwich and I was happy with my small macaroni salad.
