点评:This was our first stop on the tour. It was a great place to learn about the life cycle of various types of Salmon and how they maneuver the Ladders to their spawning grounds. There are many signs, posters, displays and bulletin boards that a tourist (or local) can use to guide themselves through the facility.
Given the time of year that we visited, we only saw a few mature Salmon through the glass windows fighting against the strong currents to reach their destination. It was more fun to view them from the grated walkways above the ladders. The grates also serve to protect the fish from predatory birds like Kingfishers and Mergansers and animals like Bears. The facility is not large, but we spent our time reading a lot of the educational material posted all over the place. The 3-D Displays were lovely. We found this area much better and more organized than the Ballard Locks in Seattle, which we had visited just a week before.
There are quite a few steps and graveled pathways to go down to the viewing area in the basement. Be careful coming back because the paths do get slippery when wet.
The Rainforest that the Hatchery was in was incredibly beautiful – especially with the loud sound of water flowing over the Dam built right there. They also have pretty landscaping for photo ops. It is a wonderful place for a nature lover.
We spent a very “Educational” half an hour here.
