Locking Fire Exits BEFORE Closing Time

点评：I was amazed when Experimental Group management announced in an email that they would now lock exits from the Spa BEFORE closing time. They specifically mentioned the two metal gates.
There are only 3 exits from the semi-underground Spa complex so if you are locking the two gates before closing time you are significantly reducing the number of emergency exits down to just 1 exit in the event of a fire or other emergency.
Fire regulations talk of the need for multiple fire exits so as not to cause choke points in the rush to leave.
I regularly saw hotel guests and spa visitors walk up to the metal gates, beyond the gym in a dark corner, only to find they were already locked and they would ask me as I swam how they could leave the spa!
Over the next year or so I watched as they regularly locked the official signed fire exit from the gym and the two metal gates often as much as 90 minutes BEFORE closing time. This happened when numerous hotel guests, spa users and staff were still on site.
This left as much as one hour and a half with only 1 exit if there had been a fire or other emergency.
On some occasions Experimental Group would in addition to locking the green signed fire exit from the gym, also draw a curtain across the only other gym door and turn the lights off.
When Experimental Group purchased the new flat-pack wooden loungers with foam filled cushions they would stack a large number of these foam filled cushions just inside the gym on the route to the fire exit. If this large pile of foam cushions (sometimes up to 2m high) had caught fire I believe there may have been a lot of very unpleasant smoke from them.
