点评:Having grown up in Hemel Hempstead, I agree that it is a town of two halves. The old town has always had a special place in my heart. It's historic, with wonderful pubs dating back to the 1500's. The stunning church, and Gadebridge park just behind the church. The cobbled street, fabulously preserved old buildings and independent shops. The old town is the jewel of Hemel. Plan your visit, if you can attend the theatre, it's very spooky and atmospheric. A further walk along the high street (with the church on your left) will take you to a lovely eatery/gastro restaurant, The Marchmont Arms, beautiful garden and a slightly higher class than Hemel new town, it's definitely one to head for on a summers day.
The old town has a fascinating and rich history which is worth investigating before your visit. It's also a popular filming location with Ricky Gervais's after life filmed there, David Walliams films are also filmed in the new town and Gadebridge park, pie in the sky was filmed in the old town too as well as many more. Please don't let the concrete jungle that is the new town put you off.
