Amazing day tour with Ruth

点评：Our multi-generational family did an amazing independent, private tour with Ruth of Scenic Shetlands, which was arranged months in advance over email. Payment was in cash, on the day of the tour, in British Pounds. After initially missing Ruth and the driver, George with Nicolsons Coaches, at the pier (Scottish immigration and tendering took longer than we expected to get off the ship, so though our ship docked at 8:30, we didn’t get to port until 10:00 am), we were whisked away in a very nice, roomy, clean van that was plenty big enough for the 6 of us (plus Ruth and George). We each were given a bottle of water. Ruth listened to what we wanted to see and made sure we got to everything, even with our delayed start. Her commentary all day was informative and fun. We went south to see the lighthouse and the very cool puffins (I probably could have just stood there all day watching them). We also had a tasty lunch (price not included in tour) at a local restaurant in Sandwick. We went to the Shetland Crofthouse Museum (where a docent told us about the house & barn and life on a croft). We went to St. Ninians Isle, but unfortunately it was raining and windy at that time, so we didn’t get out and walk down to the beach, but admired it from the parking lot. We also went to Skalloway to see the castle, shetland ponies, and museum. And, we even stopped by George’s own croft to feed some lambs and see the community greenhouses. We saw a lot of great scenery along the way, learned about the island and the residents, and had lots of laughs. Our family felt so fortunate to get to spend the day with Ruth and George.
