点评:Tuesday 16th June and we drove to this remote beach on the northern coast of the Island.
To get here we picked up the unsufaced road, a dirt track, in Corralejo, off Avenida Juan Carlos I, almost opposite the Bristol Sunset Beach Hotel.
The journey started driving past the inlet, El Charco de Bristol and it was 4.3 kilometres, which seemed to take forever due to the state of the track.
The beach is called Playa del Bajo de la Burra but is known as "Popcorn Beach" due to the shape of the fossilised marine algae known as rhodoliths which resemble popcorn. It really is a natural phenomenon and something special to see.
The formation of the beach is the main attraction, it is not a beach for sunbathing or other beach activities. There are signs indicating that swimming here is dangerous,
there are no facilities here.
Along the waterfront the were expanses of lava flows where rocks pools were formed. It was a stark contrast between the black lava and the white fossilised algae.
Another feature here is the really wacky house, Casa de Juan el pescador, it is absolutely bonkers.
